Scripture and Leadership Training

Introduction to SALT
The SALT (Scripture and Leadership Training) program is a non-credit certificate program offered through the Office of Evangelization and Worship of the Archdiocese of Anchorage in a cooperative agreement with the School of Theology and Ministry of Seattle University. The program provides a holistic course of study integrating Scripture, spirituality and leadership training. SALT is designed to familiarize participants with both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. It offers participants the opportunity to connect Scripture to their life through reflection and prayer in the context of an adult learning community. It prepares participants to serve as a resource for Scripture-based ministries in their faith community. The program provides regular opportunity to develop the interactive skills which enable effective group leadership. Class sessions are offered in multiple parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Anchorage on a rotating yearly basis.

The Mission of SALT

  • SALT responds to the Words of Jesus: You are the salt of the earth.
  • SALT gathers people together in local faith communities for regular sessions of Scripture study with a focus on biblical spirituality and leadership training.
  • SALT helps participants grow in understanding through prayer and reflection, by sharing a variety of experiences in small groups and with focused instruction.
  • SALT forms people for prophetic leadership in their faith communities.
  • SALT pursues a critical interpretation of Scripture in the Catholic Christian tradition common to ecumenical churches.
  • SALT is being made available now within the Archdiocese of Anchorage at selected parish locations through the Office of Evangelization and Worship in a co-operative agreement with the School of Theology and Ministry of Seattle University.
