How Do I Get Help?
If you or someone in your family has been physically or sexually abused by an Archdiocesan employee or volunteer….
- The first step is to contact the Office of Children’s Services or Adult Protective Services. They will assist you in contacting your local law enforcement agency or you can contact the police directly.
- Contact the Archdiocesan Victim’s Assistance Coordinator or Standing Together Against Rape (STAR) as soon as possible. They will advocate for your rights and your well being, and assist you in finding appropriate medical, psychological and spiritual care as well as assisting with reports to the police. The Victim’s Assistance Coordinator will also notify the appropriate authorities within the Archdiocese.
- The Archdiocese of Anchorage is committed to cooperating fully with civil authorities in matters of sexual assault and takes each allegation seriously.

Archdiocesan Personnel are to report the allegation to civil authorities (Office of Children’s Services, Adult Protective Services, or local law enforcement); volunteers are to report allegations to their immediate supervisor in ministry, pastor or pastoral administrator who will then report to the appropriate authorities. The Archdiocesan Personnel making the report will submit, as soon as reasonably possible, written documentation to the Safe Environment Coordinator. However, a priest is absolutely prohibited from revealing, in words or in any manner for any reason, information acquired from a sacramental confession. This confidentiality is recognized under Alaska law.
